I was wondering if anyone has heard from Pink Mary? I've been watching for news from her. She said she was scheduled to have a c-section around Feb 22nd.
Sending prayers and thoughts your way, Mary. I hope to hear from you soon with happy news!
*big hugs*

I have been wondering about her too Susan. I'm hoping that she's holding her baby boy right now and that things went perfectly for her.

Wellllll, I haven't heard from her yet but I will give her a call this weekend and see how things are and report back. She may have been in hospital a few days, especially since they were doing her slipped band at the same time.
Greek tradition keeps mum and baby away from the limelight and with only close family for 40 days so she may be cocooning!
If Mary can't report herself I'll let you all know when I do...

Thanks Ali, I really appreciate that.
It helps to know the tradition as well.
Can't wait to hear some news!

Thanks for the compliment Goanna! And thanks for keeping us updated Ali! I will have to keep Mary and her new little man in my prayers. That's neat that they are surrounded by family. That's a very nice greek tradition!

Ok, so I have called Mary a couple of times but not reached her yet. Baby must be keeping her busy- you think!
While I'm here (waiting to go to island of Poros don't you know!) I thought I would tell you a couple of 'Greek baby' facts that facinated me when I first came here.
If Mary is Greek Orthodox (and 99% are) then it is likely her baby wont actually have a name until his baptism- usally around 12-15mths of age. Until then he will be -bebe, moro mou (my baby), pethee mou (my child), agapi mou (darling) or glyko mou (sweetheart ). Please ignore spellings did it phonetically.
Children here are still traditionally given the name of a grandparent to carry on family names. Anyone who has seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding and saw the "this is Nik, Nikolas, Nikola and Nik" will get how this can be fun. If a family has several children and they all choose the same grandparent...It can have a downside too, especially with first babies and deciding which grandparent gets first honours. Many people now combine names to get in both- ie Vassilis Nikos maybe be called Vassinikos...
Finally, when giving compliamnets to anyone but especially babies, you might see people going "tsu, tsu" or "pft, pft" afterwards. Its not actually spitting as 'that' film implied. The thought is that when you say something so beautiful and genuine you don't want to accidently imply any jealousy or bad feeling and so afterwards you spit away the words so that nothing bad can happen to the recipient.
Thats all.

My hubby is 100% orthodix but i am italian. I named my son right away with his family not calling him by his name until he was baptized. But everything below is exactly what his family did. My family still laughs at it. But i think it is cute....
I can wait to hear the new from Mary.
