(this question originated from a PM I received yesterday)

Just wondering....
for your surgery, did you stay overnight, or were you able to go home the same day?

I had to stay overnight, but my insurance was billed for 'day surgery'... I wasnt actually in the hospital for a full 24 hours.

I went in for surgery at 8am and was walking out to go home at 10:30am, the same day.

I was a wuss. My Dr asked me if I wanted to stay or go, I stayed.
Im glad I did, the bed was more comfortable than my couch.
Plus the morphine made me sooo dizzy but nothing for the pain, I could hardly walk.

I stayed overnight. Had to do a swallow test before I could be released. Due to the only pain I had during the whole process was getting rid of the gas they injected for the surgery. And they were able to make me comfortable so it was worth it.

Surgery 8am Tuesday
Released 1pm Wednesday
Back at work 11pm Friday

Went in 8am, left 10am the next day, I thought I could have gone home the first day, but my doc likes to watch his patients to make sure there are no problems. I didn't take any additional pain meds after the surgery, I don't like em.

My doctor keeps all his patients overnight. I was glad, because I was so sore I really didn't want to go home. Plus, they were doing a lot of roadwork and the roads were really bumpy, so the longer I had to wait to travel on them to get home, the happier I was.

I had surgery at 8.30 am and went home at about 10.30 next morning, overnight stay is pretty standard here. I probably could have gone home and would have been fine, but its a bit hard with 3 little kids and the hospital bed with the inclining back, the hand rails round the toilet etc made the hosptial room much easier to manage than home and getting in and out of my own bed.

I stayed overnight, but it was due to the fact that when I had a previous surgery, I had reactions to the anesthetic. My blood pressure dropped, and I had begun vomitting violently. Didn't happen this time, but they wanted to be careful.

as for me, at the time they gave a choice, and being the big baby I am/was...I stayed a night......loved it too, cause they take care of you!

I stayed overnight. It was a requirement from my doc. I'm glad I did, though, because I had extreme gas pains and I wouldn't have been very good company to my husband.

In at 6:30 am for 7:30 surgery. Home by 2:30 pm They only keep you overnight if you have some issues like previous surgery problems, severe apnea, blood pressure problems or whatever.
I didn't want to stay. I was happy to be home with the doting DH, my tummy pillow and my trusty percocets. I slept on the couch using one of the back rests but upside down on a slant with a pillow on top.

I stayed overnight as well, left at 11:00am next morning. I think the only reason they kept us (myself & Amy) was for the pain meds in our I.V.

Overnight, but only cos I had gallbladder out at the same time. Most patients that my doc does go home the same day.

I stayed overnight and they had to pry my white knuckles from the bed rails to get me outta there. I like being pampered. Oh wait.. I wasn't pampered there at all. In fact, I was neglected. Hell, I was abused! Why wasn't I banging down the door to get outta there?

Ohh yeah, the morphine. Mmmmorphine.

(Oh come on, we all know I'm a drug addict. Don't act so surprised. Geesh)

They kept us overnight, I am pretty sure it is SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for my doc since we fly soon after. We got a night in the hotel after our night in the hospital before heading out to the airport. I was in nearly tip-top shape to fly.

I wasn't a huge fan of the morphine. It burnt like hell (but I was starting to get used to it) and made me feel nasty. <-and not in a good way

Holy cow!! Really?? Where did you have it done? How did you feel? That isn't even enough time for the anesthesia to wear off!
How do you feel now??

I stayed overnight - but was gone by 10am the next morning. They keep everyone just for observation. I was glad they did...I got to sleep with good drugs!!

My first surgery I stayed over night, and then stayed in town in a hotel for 3 days. This last surgery my Dr. was going to let me go stay in a hotel that night but with my complications I had to stay in the hospital for 2 nights and in town for a week. I am glad I styed in the hospital for that long because my pain was so bad I was not able to walk or go to the bathroom on my own for a while.

i stayed overnight, and they thought about keeping me one more day. I have a history of blood clots so they were worried about me. they gave me heparin to keep me from clotting. In fact when they came to take out my iv they had the bleeding stopped, then all of a sudden i started gushing blood from the small hole in my hand LOL it startled me, but i don't have a problem with blood. we got the nurse and got me stopped again. at least i felt safe that i was not going to clot. LOL and so did my doc so they released me that afternoon.

I stayed overnight in the surgical center and then 2 nights in the hotel. I am glad I did because if I had gone home I would have been cleaning and doing things I shouldn't be doing yet.
