Just wondering...

How often should we have blood work to ensure us that our body is getting enough of all the nutrients???
yearly???
every 6 months????

I see my nutritionist every three months and am planning on having blood work done every six months so that I can take the results to her.

I just went for my first round of bloodwork earlier this week and I'm 5 months out. If they don't mention it at your check-ups then I might ask by month 6 to see what their plans are.

I just had some done, I went to my GP for a renewed referral to my lapband surgeon and he was interested in how I'd gone, asked me if I'd go get bloodwork just for comparative purposes. Its an education process for him too and he's learning through me, lol. Since its covered by medicare here and wasnt going to cost me anything except 20 minutes of my time, I agreed.

I wasnt in bad health before, but my cholesterol was on the high side of normal. Its now low, 3.2, which is a different measurement to you guys. Interestingly, my iron levels are better than what they were 12 months ago, and everything else was right where it should be.

I've also never had a blood pressure problem but it was 130/80 this time last year and is now 110/70. I have a feeling, since everything was normal but on the high side of normal, that I was just getting to the point where I would have begun suffering problems within the next five or so years. It feels really good to have averted that.

My GP wants to do it 6mts out. My surgeon requires it 1 year out.
I think I am going to go with GP though. Im a paranoid hypocondriac.
I also found out that my cousin has Cushing's. :( I think I am going to go get tested just to see what mine is. To be on the safe side.

Jill, better to be safe then sorry! I love the idea of being tested every 6 months. Just think of all the different diseases that could be caught early on - if people were tested THIS regularly!

Jacqui, not sure about there - but over here in the states our levels have changed. What used to be a normal reading is now a low high - crazy, huh?
Like you, pre-banding my GP was ready to script me some HPB meds(something like 140/92)... 34 yrs old and on BP meds - go figure!
Had surgery, lost weight and the last time I was there (3 weeks ago) my BP was 110/68.

Anyway, MY GP wants blood work yearly. But I like the q 6 months thing.
