Just wondering what everyone took for pain after surgery...

MY doctor didnt prescribe ANYTHING. We were told to take liquid tylenol every 4-6 hours as needed.
No pain killers.

Is this normal?

They offered me some serious high end narcotics, I went with nothing.

Liquid Codeine here. Dr. Spivak gives all his patients a prescription for it when you leave. It is your choice to use it or not.

Percocets cut into quarters. I was given water and told to start taking them in the recovery room (in addition to the shots of morphine and whatever). told to take 2 every 4 hours then ease off until no longer needed. I took them every 4 hours the first day, then only one every 6 or so hours the 2nd day, then one at night before bed the 3rd day , then half before bed, and then a quarter, then liquid tylenol (as needed). I was told as long as I wasn't dizzy to stay on top of the pain in order to heal faster.
By the 4th day or so I wasn't taking anything except the liquid tylenol before bed.
The first 2 days I had pain. Real pain and it continued to ease every day.

I don't remember what it was. I took them just because I figured, why not enjoy my recovery?! LOL. Otherwise, I didn't really need them. I think liquid/chewable tylenol would've sufficed.

I was given hydrocdone, oxycodone and liquid Lortab...with refills! I took them all. I had insane shoulder pain and for the first week, I was one pill popping mama.

i hate taking meds, and so i tried to deal with it on my own. the second night after surgery i had a hard time sleeping, and they want you rested and well into recovery before putting you on a plane so the next night Dr. Rodriguez (Dr. Sanchez's partner) came in to my room at the guest to give me a shot. then he said "turn around and bend over" Rob and I laughed and I told him that he had better buy me a tequila when we were done. I got a shot in the ass, but no tequila. So we picked up a bottle at the airport. LOL

I picked up some liquid tylenol PM, but have yet to use it. that was the only pain meds i recall taking.
