Friday night I went with my sister to a Weightloss Surgery seminar. The speaking surgeon performs both the RnY and lap-band. He said that he recommends all of his patients take extra calcium tablets and B-12 injections - the B-12 injections increase metobolism (energy).
Just wondering if any of us are getting these injections?!
Since I am -so tired- all of the time, I was interested in getting a B-12 shot, just didnt know if it helps or not!

I used to do this when I was an athlete playing football in college.
Wouldn't mind it again, I always found it to help me back then.
I think I'll talk to my GP.

I bought some of the sub-lingual (sp?) dots from Walmart. Been on 'em since Saturday.
Ive noticed that I have an increase in energy and my thinking clarity it much better (thank you God!).
I need to find out what the proper dosage is. The bottle I bought had 500mcg dots, so Ive been taking 2 q am.
Wondering if I need to increase it (you know ~ 2 works well, 3 will do even better)... OR if I should just do away with the dots and get then injection.

Geesh, Paula.. you jinxed me!
Last week my I went in to see my doctor in an attempt to find out what's causing the hives I've been dealing with over the past three or four months. While looking thru my records, she mentioned that she would like to have my B12 checked because a lot of WLS patients don't get enough in their diets. Sure enough, I spoke with her office today and I am to begin the B12 injections - one a week for four weeks, and then once a month for... ?? I wasn't told for how long.

Im wondering if I need to just get the shots instead of these dots Im doing. IF you remember to ask, find out what level of dosage the shots are. THanks!

So, do you have to visit your doctor's office to get these shots, or can they be self-administered?

Susan - Won't do!!
LOL- but I think its a very commen thing to give these shots to yourself. Probably a teeny-tiny allergy needle, tiny gauge, small prick - you know?
Id be willing to 'shoot' myself :D (didnt sound right, but you know what Im talking about) No special trip to a DR office, finding child care, traffic - too much aggravation for me!

I'm also going to ask my doctor about this tomorrow when we talk. Thanks for the idea.
I took the b12 pills. They have 500mg or 1000mg. at GNC. For me they had me going.

I started using the B12 patch last week. It absorbs the same way as the shot without the pain and expense. It's $25 for a one month supply and it is working amazingly. I use to do the shots through a weight loss doctor and I get the same energy from this patch. I'll post the website.

It's b12patch.com One patch is the equivalent of a weekly shot and you wear it for 24 hours behind your ear.

Never heard of the patch, but these 'dots' are doing wonders.
No 'blah' days so far...
actually my evergy level has stayed pretty much on a higher level. This is a dramatic difference then when I started on 'em.

I need some energy big time, I have had a cold the last few days and I feel like cr*p. Does anyone know if someone gives it a go that doesnt need more B12 whether its bad or not?

I went to the store today and bought some of the sublingual B12 "dots". They don't make you jittery like caffeine, do they? I don't do well with stimulants.
Anyone try Source of Life liquid vitamins or Vibe?
Kathy, I bought a small bottle of aloe vera juice and tried some and it tasted really odd, and I can usually stomach just about anything. Do you drink it straight or mix it? It said you could mix it with juice, so I had 2 oz. of aloe vera and 2 oz. of apple juice. I wonder if it works as well.

Melissa, I drink it straight. No real reason, I guess I just want that pure aloe sitting on my band/stoma as it gurgles down. ??? It does have an odd, sharp taste without being nasty-tasting at the same time.
I did finally get a fresh bottle of aloe vera. My old gallon has been in the fridge for so long. I dont think it goes bad, but I threw it out and got the berry-flavored one this time. Much better! It's more economical by the gallon, but oh well. This smaller bottle I can keep in the fridge in the house, as opposed to the one in the garage. Easier.
Kellie, I was wondering that last night...can one take too much B-12? Not sure. Anyone? Beuller?
I forgot to look for B-12 at the grocery store today. But I'm going to Wal-Mart tomorrow so I'll get it then. Ya'll let us know how it's going with the B-12!

Ooo, there's a berry flavor? Where'd you get it? I just bought a very small bottle to try it at my local grocery - it has a very extensive whole/natural foods section and I've been testing protien drinks everytime I go. I saw that they had lots of natural vitamins and aloe vera juice but I didn't notice any flavors. One more thing to try.
It did seem to settle my stomach a little. I ate dinner rather quickly, as I had to rush my son to Tae Kwan Do, so I got a little "heartburny". I haven't taken my Aciphex for a few days, because I've felt pretty good. That's what I get, I guess. I still may need a shot of Maalox, though.

Melissa, I get the berry flavored at Wal Mart, on the bottom shelf of the tummy meds section (Tums, etc). The regular flavored come in a gallon for about $8. The berry comes in a smaller bottle (16 oz?) for just under $5. Better bargain for the larger container, but the berry is much much better tasting.
I think you should keep up with the aloe vera with your "heartburny" thing going on. Especially drink it straight at bedtime (3-4 ounces). I find that the most helpful.

The elderly are often given a monthly vitamin B shot to help improve their metabolism as it becomes compromised with age. My nanna used to have them every month, and she'd ROCK for a week or two after her shot.
B complex vitamins are also a great preventative if you are prone to cold sores (herpes virus) etc.
I swear by a daily Berocca each morning for an energy boost. Sometimes i'll have an extra one later in the day if I am fighting off a cold etc. They are soluble vitamin B and C complex. The Performance variety has added magnesium and zinc whihc helps metabolise energy and fight off infection. They taste nice - fruity - the original flavour is orangey and the tropical flavour is more like mangoes and pawpaw.
I'd never heard about vit. B dots, patches or self-administered injections. Not sure if we have those here in Australia.

I've been doing the patch for 3 weeks now and I'm really noticing a difference in energy level. I have Epstein Barr, so every bit helps. Last week I put the patch on too late in the afternoon (around 4pm) and i didn't get to sleep until about 4 in the morning! Lesson learned.

Melissa, I started with 2 dots then a week later I increased to 3. Absolutely NO jittery feelings at all!
oh - and the day I started the dots is the same day I started taking my flintstones again.
The b-12 dots help.
The multi-vit helps.
Together they are working wonders for my energy level and over all sense of well-being. While Im at it - I cant even think of the last time I had a drop in my mood... now that Im thinking of it - Im impressed!
Kathy, what brand of dots did you get?
sublingual?
Just as a FYI, when I pour my first cup of coffee in the morning is when I take my 3 dippity-do-dots!
something's is working!

PAULA! Where have you been?
I got Twinlab Vegetarian Formula Sublingual B-12 dots 500mcg each. It says on the label to take one daily or as directed. I need to see if there are any side effects to "overdosing" on B-12. I'll have to try two and see if I feel any difference.
I think I'm going to try the Source of Life liquid vitamins and see if there is any difference as well. I've been taking the chewable Viactive Chocolate Cherry multi-vitamins, but I want to see if there is a difference in the veggie liquids. Supposedly these are supposed to make a bigger energy difference than regular vitamins - probably because it has 3333% of the daily allotment of B-12!
I just need a boost and since I gave up caffeine almost three years ago, I just can't seem to "get it in gear". It was my main source of fuel. GAWD I MISS IT!:hurt:
