View Full Version : Day after first day of solids!

ok... so i got on the scale this morning, thinking - and being full prepared for knowing this might not make me happy...... (bc so many people say when you start solids you gain a bit) and my first solid dinner, btw - was DELISH! ;) i still did a shake for breakfast and lunch - just bc it is so damn simple!! but i did have laughing cow cheese and wheat thins as my 2 snacks (10 am and 2 pm) THEN i made chicken courdon bleu (low fat version - i hate half a breast), with a sweet potato (ate half), squash/ broccolli/ califlower blend (ate about 1/2 cup), and we started with a nice salad (THAT was actually such a treat - all those crunchy veggies!!! who knew i'd be so excited about salad!) anyway, it was really nice. i even set the table up all pretty - candles and all - and vin and i sat in the dining room to eat (which we hardly to never do) and instead of putting the TV on afterwards, we just sat and talked --- like we used to do when we first started dating a few years ago - so it was really nice on many regards!!! aaaaaaaaaaand - it was a SLOW eating experience. which i rarely never have time for and know i need to start making time for!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so today, after the wonderful solid dinner described above (CHEWED IT ALL! YEH!) i step on the scale.............. and as you all know i've been going up and down with those couple pounds for the last 3 weeks...
but............................... i lost 3.2 lbs. since yesterday!!!!!!!! WOW!!! can you argue that my body does not require more calories for it to burn? give me a break! EVERYTIME i eat more than i think i should (or as in yesterday's case - my first solid dinner) i lose weight! CRAZY! (and i did have a small white hot chocolate yesterday from DD too... it's soooooooo cold and it was soooooooo good - i know i shouldn't have - but i didn't eat much most of the day prior - just my shakes, some cheese, and wheat thins)
so my prognoses? i think those grumblings in my stomach that have been driving me insane are just my body telling me it needs more food! am i crazy? what do you think?
OH! and btw, this puts me 0.2 away from my lowest since starting this!!!! :) ALMOST back to even! how cool would that be going into next friday's fill? ;) back to square one to start losing again! WOO HOO!
just wanted to share my joy!!!! thanks for all your support!!! I CANNOT WAIT FOR MY FILL NEXT FRIDAY! (one week today!) :woot:

I know that if I keep my calories low (less than 1000) I quit loosing. I have to stay about 1100-1300 per day to keep the scale moving.

Does that mean the 1800 very healthy and super well-balanced calories I ate yesterday will make me lose? Here's hoping! Yes, your body needs calories...find your "sweet spot" for losing. Most folks, it's above 1200 but below 1600 calories a day PLUS exercise. IMO. :)
So great to hear Jess! I know it is frustrating to see the scale stuck, but you made it through. Your dinned sounded lovely too! :)

Sounds really great Jess, sounds like a lovely evening too!! I don't know if you have been keeping track of measurements ( I have been doing bust, waist, hips, thigh, upper arm)-I have been doing that once a week as well as a photo- taking the measurements has been useful. My measurements have changed quckest when my weight gain has slowed- like its playing catch up. I bet if you have been doing the measurements you will have seen a really positive change!! If that scale s not gving you the postives that you hoped for for a little while, its been useful to have the other measures to help stay positve!

i am doing measurements - but only once a month. i keep track of them here - bc it gives you a really cool diagram of the body and where the tape measurer should be. i also take pics once a month (first month - 2 weeks)

That's wonderful, Jess. You are off to a great start. When you start getting fills, things will be good, too.
my first fill is this friday!!!!!!! well, the doc said he will check at that time if i need a fill... but how could i not???????????????? i could eat a house! that should not be! i had no idea how difficult this was going to be! i still feel like i'm dieting and i WANTED to feel full after i ate a normal amount. i mean, don't get me wrong - i did not think this was a magic cure. and i know i am eating a lot less than i did pre-band... BUT i expected to be eating even less and feeling satisified with that. it's exhausting! and of course i am a food addict and THINK about food ALL DAY LONG. that does not help. it will come............. i have faith! it will come!!!!!!

Doesn't it feel so good when that scale moves??!!! Congrats Jess! :)
About a month or so ago I said to my good (banded) friend, that I always knew this would be hard but I didn't realize just HOW hard it would be and that now I truly understand what she has been through. So I understand Jess. It is hard!
You've made so many positive changes so far, and are doing such a great job - you should be proud! Keep up the good work!!

Thanks so much Chrispy!!!! It is nice to know people understand!!! :)
It is TRULY invalueable the support you receive here and knowing you are NOT alone in this struggle.
With weight, with band issues, with life itself. Isn't it funny to think this group of people, many of
whom you probably will never meet, make SUCH a positive impact in your life???? It is difficult to
explain to someone who is not living it. (Vinny teases me for spending so mcuh time on the computer
anymore talking to my fellow "bandster geeks" hehehe - he means well, really!) But it is true, I can't
get enough of you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MUCH LOVE SISTAS AND BROTHAS!!!

:D Wow!
It is great hearing your journey vicariously as I make up my mind to do the surgery or not. It does feel victorious to conquer the pounds that have held us captive. Good for you!!!
It's snowing here again, love this Denver weather!

it's funny - it is by no means easy! the first week was OK, the second i was getting sick of liquids, the third, i cheated and started mushies early, the fourth i was STARVING on mushies, but held out till the fifth (last week) to start solids... it seems like yesterday that i had surgery!!!! it goes by soooooooooo fast!!!! just remember, as you make your decision - we're here for support and if you have any questions, don't be afriad to ask! :)
Way to go Jess!
thanks, goanna!! ;)

That is so great Jess!
I have been stuck at 20# loss for about 1.5 weeks now. I too think it's because I'm not getting enough calories. I am on a full liquid still but can add fruit to my shakes and eat yogurt. I have done that and have had a few mushy dinners to try to increase the calories.
It's so dang frustrating though because I'm following the rules! I just have to keep reminding myself that it's only been 3.5 weeks and it will happen.
You're doing soooo great though! Your excitment continues to show in your posts and is contagious!

thanks, tina!!! remember - this is a time for healing, not losing. i keep reciting that to myself as well!!!!!!!! it's hard - bc you want it gone like... yesterday! but we have to do our part - and wait wait wait..... can't wait till it all kicks in and starts working! good luck to you! and thanks for your sweet words!!!
