I have seen posts lately that refer to fills with Omnipack. What is that?

I wondered the same thing. Thanks for asking what I was thinking. :)

I remember this question coming up on LBT eons back when I still posted there. I remember them saying that it's a different kind of substance that they fill the band with, and I think (don't quote me here) that they said that it's used to see if there are any leaks in the band too. I also believe I remember them saying that it didn't evaporate like the saline can/does sometimes.
If anyone still posts overthere (LBT) you can probably do a search and find the discussion about it from back in the day. If I'm wrong about any of what I said, then I apologize. It was quite awhile ago and I'm going purely from my fragmented memory. LOL

Probably saw me mention omnipack guys... :)
It is just a thicker solution than saline. My first fill almost completely disappeared so I was given the thicker stuff. I do not think it is as thick as glycerin, but it isn't as thin as saline.
Hope that helps.
My Dr. uses this pretty frequently.

Thanks Heather, I was wondering what this was. Is this going to eventually be the standard?

I don't think so. I am not too sure about all of the specifics of why they have to use it on certain people. Don't quote me here, but I think some bodies absorb the saline or if there is a little poke hole in the tube or port some may leak out easier with the saline. I need to ask Dr. Spivak next time I see him. He has explained it to me before, but I don't remember what he said. :)
I remember sitting in his seminar and I asked if the saline leaked out ever and if it would harm us. I do remember him saying that it wouldn't and sometimes it does leak out and he would use the omnipack.
I will try to dig deeper on this for you and other who are curious. I have only heard from other Spivak patients about them having this fluid. I don't know if other Dr.'s use it at all.
Spivak was the first to perform lap band in Texas and he is on some FDA team researching the lap band and what not, so I feel very comfortable with whatever he does.
Have I mentioned that I think he is the GREATEST Dr. in the world? :)

Thanks Heather, I HAVE noticed that your Dr. really seems to be on the cutting edge of all of the banding stuff. It is awesome to have a Dr. that is a forward thinker and not just "doing his job."
