Hello there... I am new here and still trying to learn this site. I was banded almost 2 years ago out of state by Dr. Grossbard. I am currently in the process of trying to become a patient of Dr. Voellinger. I am seeking the aftercare and support so desperately needed that I have lacked these last two years. I live in Belmont and look forward to finding local bandster buddies.

I guess I should give a brief intro as well... I am 29 married with one child. I was diagnosed with PCOS years ago and the band was recommended to possibly help with this endocrine disorder. I have lost @55 pounds.

Hey Alissa! Do you know Mrs. Sabre from Blemont? I'm near you, as well. Welcome to b2g and the NC Forum! I hope you can come to lunch with us in a few weeks! Are you the one I PM'd at LBT? Brain burp, sorry :) Anyway, welcome!

HI Alissa,

Welcome - you'll find most of these ladies are partial to Dr V (hee...Kim and Karen).... I used Dr Bauman in concord, because dr V was changing his practice at the time I was looking at RNY.

I am in the gastonia area, but no body in their right minds would come this far south. I moved from NY to Gastonia 7.5 years ago.

After being at North East this past week, I think I might want to check out that area next year. Any tips on schools or areas to avoid?

Welcome Alissa! I'm newish here too AND have the lovely joy of PCOS in common with ya!! I just went to my seminar last night and am on my way to BandLand. I have read from other PCOS gals on here that they saw a lot of improvement in symptoms after surgery - I sure hope it helps - I wanna be a Mommy so bad! Not to mention all the other fun things PCOS brings with it, like the stray eyebrows that arrive on my chin overnight!! Ha ha!! Would love to get rid of those!

gonabobina,
You are so funny! What a perfect way to describe what PCOS does for us! I just wanted to tell you that I have NEVER had regular periods. Once every 4-6 months or so was normal for me. Now that I've lost some, (not any where CLOSE to enough) all of a sudden I have regular periods, and I can't believe it! I have one son, but I had him with fertility treatments. I'd love to have another one the "natural" way, but having a regular cycle makes me feel like I'm actually a normal girl now. So, there is hope for all of PCOSers being somewhat like the rest of the ladies out there!

Welcome, happy to have you at our site. I am glad you said PCOS I think I have it and at one of my physicals the CNP thought so too but did not want to do the work up till I lost weight thinking it would resolve. I have multiple symptoms but was wondering what some of you gals with pcos had for symptoms. My worrisome one is all the hair I am losing my husband said it looks like when his mom was undergoing chemo. The gal that does my hair said you have lost a ton and then I burned up a vaccum because so much hair tied up the bar. I also have skin tags, facial hair, dark skin patches, and more. I wonder if weight loss is slower with people who have this also.

PCOS sistas unite!! Here's a web site I found helpful early on - haven't looked at it in a while...http://www.soulcysters.com/index.html

there's a self-test on there and I remember the first time I did one of those I felt like every question was describing me. I couldn't believe it!! Maybe I'll start a PCOS thread out on the big board and we can share info

I have everything Shelly said and then some - and it is definitely harder to lost weight in general but from what I've heard on the boards, the LapBand DOES WORK if you have PCOS - woo hoo!!!
