Hello All - -
Been lurking a couple of weeks and thought it was time to introduce myself. I'm Cathy in Cary NC (right outside of Raleigh). Here are the basics:
Name: Cathy
Home: Cary NC
Age: 42
Kids: 2 daughters, 15 and 17 (technically my stepdaughters, but that is a story for another time)
Surgery: going for the Lap-band, if insurance approves
Insurance: Cigna EPO
Surgeon: Dr Moran
Where I am at in the Process:
Have gone to the hospital and had chest xray, Upper GI, Arterial Blood Gas, EKG, Pulmonary Function Tests, labs
Met with the nutritionist and therapist.
Have appts with cardiologist, gastroenterologist, and pulmonologist on 12/19, 12/20 and 12/27.
After that, I guess it is submit to insurance and wait for approval!
Can't wait to get started. I am so looking forward to being thin and healthy again! Just the simple things - like crossing my legs!
Well there you have it is a nutshell. Wish me luck!

Hey Cathy,
As one of the few handsome losers, I bid you a heart welcome to our group of sexy chicas and studly losers. There is a huge wealth of information, support and comedy here so be sure to jump in and really get covered up in it. There's a nice sticky about prepping for your day in the hospital, tons of recipes for different stages and of course lots of support.
Good luck with the last of your test and I look forward to your first band-day.
BTW...I'm sure you got the email, but if not just send the 40 dollar check monthly to me directly...if you need an address just PM me.

Wow! Thanks everyone for such a warm welcome! I'm sure I'll have tons of questions! I'm still a little unclear on how things will truly be once the "deed is done!".
I guess the biggest thing I don't understand is the various things people say they can no longer eat. Or how some things don't go down. Think it may just be one of those things I'll have to learn when I'm on the "other side"!

Hi Cathy, Nice hat!
What do you mean How things will be when the deed is done? Do you mean you don't know what you will be able to eat or not eat...thats why we're all here, to tell you the horrific stories about PBing and foaming and sliming...LOL.
Seriously tho, there are very few foods that can't be eaten (I haven't found any). Some people have issues with denser proteins like beef, while others have problems with rubbery food like shrimp. It depends on you, your chewing habits and your level of restriction.
The best way to know what you can eat is to try something (A LITTLE), see how you feel, just don't do it at someone's wedding for the first time.
For pre-surgical suggestions, take photos, a lot of them. Start writing down everything you eat (I use fitday.com it has some really cool features to help set goals), take all your measurements. This way you have a baseline before you start this journey and then you can mark your milestones as you go.
Welcome Cathy! This stie is an excellent resource for information and support. And you will meet some great people! Keep us updated on our journey.

You picked a great place to get started on the journey. I'm not banded yet, either, but this place is tops for learning about all things band related.
Good luck on your insurance approval. Keep us all posted!
