Hey guys...I went to my primary doctor this morning and just thought I'd let you all know how it went. It went FABULOUS...that's how it went! :cheer2:

When I called and made the appointment, I told the nurse that I really wanted a consult...that I just wanted to talk about a procedure that I had been researching and that it was wls, etc. I didn't know how he would react. You know, you just never know how a medical professional is going to feel about stuff. It was important to me to find out his take so that if I had to go through an insurance approval battle - I could count on him. He was totally supportive...he told me that he has patients that have used Dr. B and Dr. V and that both were very good. He's been my primary care doctor for about 20 years, so it's not like he doesn't know that weight has been an issue for me my whole life.

He went ahead and did the bloodwork, CXR, and EKG in the office today. I go back in a month for them to record my weight and blood pressure, etc. in case the insurance wants a 3 - 6 month dr/diet study. When he got up to leave to get the nurse for bloodwork, he said that this was going to get me on track and that he was proud of me for taking charge of my health. I felt so relieved. When he left...I just thought wow...this is really going to happen. I can't wait to join the banded!

:dance:I've been doing a happy dance all day long....

That is great Shelley! It is so nice to have that kind of support. When I looked into WLS several years back, my PCP was luke warm on the idea, warning be about regaining my weight, etc. But when I started back on it this time, he was very supportive and thought it was a good idea. Apparently he forgot what his stance was before :). I can't wait to go get my physical this year and see what he thinks about my success. I have never before been excited to go get an annual physical.

How wonderful to have the support of you PCP. Especially someone who you trust. He will be one of your biggest cheerleaders. I couldn't even get mine to do my blood work because another doc ordered it. He is no longer my PCP. We're pulling for you Shelley!

Oh and it's so cool to go back for your yearly with a nice chunk of weight gone. My PCP was VERY complimentary, which was a change from the lukewarm reception when I first mentioned I was looking into being banded. I left very proud. So glad you have great support, Shell. Yay you! Keep dancin'!

Thanks guys for the support! I'm estatic about his response...plus I feel like I'm halfway there on the pre-op stuff. I have the psych/nutritionist/fitness thing scheduled for the 20th of Dec, so basically unless the surgeon orders something else - all I would have left would be the UGI.

Life is sweet! I hope I'm still as happy when they actually try to get the insurance to approve. Fingers crossed!

We had my husband's Christmas party for work tonight. All I could think was that this time next year I'll be so much healthier and feel so much better. I can't wait....

Yay Shelley! It's SO nice to have a supportive PCP. Mine was great and I think it makes all the difference. Good luck with the rest of your tests!
