I have an apt with the surgeon still and although i am leaning towards Lap Band, I am still not 100%. I guess I am worried about weight gain or not losing the weight. I know with Gastric the weight will come off but will it stay off? I know it is just a tool. I am also concerned with pregnancy? Is it safer to get pregnant with lap band as opposed to gastric?

Erica - these are all really good questions and I'm sure you'll get lots of responses...that said, you should definitely sit down with your surgeon and get his/her answers -- it's a great way to get to know your surgeon and them to get to know you, hearing about your future plans (pregnancy) and your concerns about re-gaining weight.

I can only speak as a banded person -- one thing that differs with gastric bypass is the fact that the band IS reversible - GB is not, once done you have that and no alternatives. With a band or GB, you "can" regain your weight -- either way it is a TOOL and only a tool -- the hard work (and head work) has to be done for you to achieve your goals. Either choice (or the sleeve as a third option) all require lifestyle changes and a want-to attitude -- it's not a race, it's a journey that will last your lifetime. The band is just fine left in place for pregnancy and can actually help you to not gain too much while pregnant - we have quite a few pregnant bandsters right now as a matter of fact. Just remember, it's about you doing the work - the band or GB is there to guide you and keep you diligent. The GB can stretch (the pouch-or stomach) out and weight can be re-gained, there is no guarantee that faster is better regarding a band vs gastric bypass. so as you can see, there is a lot to read about and decide when it comes to weight loss surgery and your surgeon is the best person to address these questions and concerns.

I hope you'll continue to come to B2G - you do not have to be banded to be a member here. As you continue researching your options don't hesitate to post and ask more questions.

Thank you. I have been leaning towards Lap Band and it seems like the safer option for me. I know I can do this, my head is in the right place to get this started. I will keep everyone posted and let you know when I get my surgery date :hitit:

don't be a stranger -- you can start making changes before you are even banded -- join us for the January Exercise Challenge or start your blog - just practicing not drinking with your meals is a great start - look forward to hearing a surgery date soon!
