[Telly]

Just some history.

The beginning pictures are of me in highschool and in college. I was always fit, a self-proclaimed health nut. I loved sports. I participated in every sport my highschool had to offer, i.e., varsity tennis, varsity track & field, varsity field hockey, J.R.O.T.C. Cadet Captain for the drill teams and lastly swim team in college. If you wonder where I get my competitive drive or endurance, etc., it's because I lived an athletic lifestyle, which was imbedded early on in my life. My father was a Sr. Master Sgt. in the Air Force and raised us in the military, gung-ho style.

I can remember, when I was 15 years old, I would go for 3 mile jogs with my step mother. She saw my interest in fitness and thought it would be a great thing to encourage. She even bought me a gym membership where all of the military people worked out, on base. I was 15 at the time. My stepmother always encouraged exercise.

My senior year in highschool, I became the Battalion Commander of my military school, the highest status you can achieve. We passed our annual inspection and recieved a blue star award. The Blue Star allows you to nominate one of your students to go to West Point for a full scholarship, but you had to write to your Congressman and you had to have the right kind of grades. I was nominated by my Brigadier General. 3 months later I received a letter of acceptance for a full 4 year scholarship in Nursing. A few weeks later I found out I was pregnant. Tormented morally and convinced by what I perceived to be "love", drove my decision. I opted against West Point and decided to get married and go through with my pregnancy.

I went from 120lbs to 205lbs during my pregnancy with my son. Even after my son's birth in 1994, I lived in the gym, sweating off all of those pounds. I lost most of my weight, getting down to 145 - 155lbs. At some point I was becoming an abused teen wife whose husband did not accept my new weight. I began losing my self-esteem and turned to food. I would occaisionally catch my husband blatantly cheating on me. I can recall gaining another 20lbs from just emotional eating.

With the divorce of my first husband, I began to yo yo in my weight. Feelings of regret consumed me, food comforted me. I lost my mother's trust, whom expressed major "disappointment" in my decisions regarding my future. She had always tried to raise us to be doctor/lawyer bound. She tried to raise us to wait to have kids. Wait till after college. Stay healthy and live comfortably by making the right decisions. I didn't care at the time. I had chosen a different path than what my parents wanted.

With the birth of my daughter, Eliana in 2002, I went from 145lbs to 240lbs. I gained almost 100lbs. I really let myself go. 4 years after I had my daughter, I realized I could no longer hide behind the fact that I "just had a baby". She was no longer a baby and I had alot of body work to do.

Currently back on track

I am back on track now, where I consider my health top priority. I think that we go through things such as weight gain, weight loss, relationships for a reason. We go through turmoil and tragedy, which molds us into the people we are now, whether that would be appreciative, spiritual, happy, jilted, hateful, cold or bitter. I am glad I am going through this weight loss journey with the band. I have been able to see three sides to health. I've seen healthy, obese and weight loss through medical intervention lifestyles. I can now truly empathize with the world.

I wanted to share my journey though pictures. Please forgive me for the placement of the pictures. There was no way I could make this easy on the eyes. Some pictures are grainy, dated and some very clear.

I find the laptop more fun myself. At the beginning of this journey, 2 weeks prior to surgery, I dreaded working out but the more I did it, the more habit forming it became and eventually a daily routine. It will grow on you quickly if you let it.

I am definitely going to try. I feel like my weight loss has been so slow, especially compared to everyone else that was banded in April. I know I need to kick it up a notch. I went to Bailey's gym and did the tour the other day, I think I am going to go ahead and join. I like my treadmill, but I really need the other equipment for toning, etc.

Yes, that's how it started for me. First I biked, then I wanted more so the DH bought me a treadmill. I ran on that for a few months, grew bored and joined Gold's Gym. I love that place. 40,000 sq feet of nothing but equipment to help you look like a superhero ..tee hee. Equipped with a room called the "Cardio Theatre". They have all of the cardio machines set up in there with a full project theatre system and they will play DVD's, horror, comedy, whatever. It's a good idea b/c. Imagine how easy a 2 hour cardio session could be during a good horror flick.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not bored there but I want to incorporate boxing into my workouts b/c I heard from my brother that it's the type of training that will have you in crazy shape in no time. My gym will be bringing this in soon but I am antsy. I have held off joining a boxing gym for that reason.

Working out can easily get boring if the scenery doesn't change.

Ah Telly....where to begin. First, it had to be agonizing to give up a full ride to get a nursing degree....You made such a brave choice to have a baby at such a young age....and you were even braver to end that marriage! No one deserves abuse on any level! And last, you show with great dignity and pizzazz that anything is possible - if you dream big enough - and then get off the couch and do something about it. Indeed, you are transformed - into an even more beautiful woman (if that is possible) than before, on the inside and the outside. Be proud - hold your head high ALL the time - and love yourself! And yes - go ahead - brag about how hard you made your band work for you! The "Remix" girl indeed! Couldn't have said it better!

Awe Thanks Telly. You are too :)..I wish I weighed less. ....I might weigh a little less than 200. I have a scale at home. I will post some pictures soon of me at goal weight. 5 years ago!....140. I was a size 5/6. Right now I'm a 12. When I went for my first fill here in NC. The radiologist and Dr. were so surprise that I was there for a fill. They said I was pretty small for a band patient. I guess I have a higher bone density. Yep. You will love Spinning. I spin every now and then. It's addictive too...

I will not post a new picture for at least a month as I will be getting a tummy tuck and lipo next weekend. Pray for me please, if you can.

You have some so far so quickly. A truely successful bandster.
Good Luck with the TT and lipo...its not really pain just uncomfortable. For the first 3 days keep up to your meds even if you dont feel as if you need them. Also dont push yourself to stand straight up to quickly.
The lipo is the most painful, kind of like how a bruise feels but all over in the spot you had the lipo, none of it is unbearable.
You wont know yourself after a TT, especially with the workouts you have been doing. You wont realise the ab definition you have hiding. I cant wait to see your results, I just know they are going to be awesome!!!!

Thank you Kelliebelly! Those are great pointers, i.e., taking meds and not standing straight up too soon, etc. I pray all goes well, that the surgeon's have angelic hands and that my husband takes good care of me while I am there. My daughter is going too.

I do hope that I don't recognize myself after the tuck. I hope that when I hit the gym, I won't have to cover up my belly anymore when I do crunches.

Paul thank you! I plan on busting my ass after I have the medical clearance to do so.

I am a trooper when it comes to surgeries, I've had 3 so far, but I feel for my husband, I know I'll be griping and complaining. Pray for my husband..lol. The crazy thing is..we spend a week there healing and I hope I can handle the long plane flight back home without event.

Oct. 7th we fly into San Diego. (Saturday)
Oct. 8th pre-ops (on a Sunday)
Oct. 9th surgery at 7:30am (Monday)
Oct. 13th drains removal and return flight home (Friday)

Telly, You are such an inspiration to me and to others. Ya know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Even though I will still be in the hospital as you are going I will still say a prayer for you. Too bad you dont live closer or vice versa....we could recoop together being that we will both have a long recooperation period. You are such a beautiful person both inside and out! Not hard to realize why so many love you so! Just think how much more fantastic you are going to look after the TT and lipo. I had a patient the other day who had a visitor and she said that was the best thing she ever did was have a TT. Said that it was uncomfortable but as long as she took her pain meds and left her binder on the alloted time she was cool. Please keep me posted on your progress. Will pray for you to have a safe comfortable trip back home as well as for your husband and his patience during your recovery post op.:hug:

I know folks. I am not at my projected personal goal but I think I may change it. I'm starting to look really funny with the big head and bones in my chest pertruding. Also, I wanted to clean up that area. I wasn't really 100% wanting to do this soo soon but my husband took off 9 days and this is in the timeframe as his vacation. He asked me to call and see if i could get an appt. He thought it was a good idea to do it now while we both had the time. The doc says he's ready for me.

Hey, if there isn't a better time then I don't know when. Plus, I'll be maybe 10lbs closer to goal once the healing and swelling subsides. No biggie really.

I don't care about the glamour, I just want to walk anywhere and not tug at my jacket to cover my excess skin. But it's dawned on me just how lucky I am to have this done but at the same time ..I suppose I'm having a few issues with it. Don't mind me. I will fight within myself on all of this and just shut up about it.

It's not the beauty part that I care about. It's about freedom.

I have been meaning to write to you for a while now and just keep forgetting (sorry). I wanted to let you know what an awesome inspiration you are to me, physically and emotionally. You are sooooo strong.

I admire how hard you have worked to get to where you are, and I also admire you as a person for not giving up when the going gets tough in life. So many people give up so easily (on relationships, on life, on their weight, etc.), but I see such determination and drive to not only succeed, but also to keep things in life right. That is truly an admirable quality/character in you.

I read what you said about following your husband's dream of opening and running the restaurant too. I was deeply impressed by your willingness to stand beside him in his dream, while having to give up the comforts of your current home/privacy. How incredibly noble and loving of you to stand beside him in this, lending your support.

Been lifting kinda heavy for me. I have been hitting some all time highs with 65 - 95lbs in the arms muscle groups.

Legs - 235lbs leg press
Squats - 100lbs (working on 155lbs)

As you can see by my pictures, I am not comfortable with anyone else taking my photos.

Short-term goal: Drop 15 - 20lbs by the first of the year
Long-term goal: Drop 10-15% in body fat

I had to post a great moment for me today. I've finally broke the 140's marker.

I decided to weigh in this morning only after a banana, 1 serving of oatmeal and a half of isopure shake. I couldn't believe it but I weighed 1lb less than I did 2 weeks ago. I forgot to weigh in before I ate and after the morning pee..lol and..after all I ate this weekend which is enough to choke a donkey.

Dollface, the tummy tuck surgery did not hurt as much as the lipo. The tummy tuck was fine, the lipo is the one thing that really stung. Took me roughly 6 weeks where I could not exercise (but I did). It's no big deal really.

I love you guys! I've been in school and the course is intense. I have been going to school 8:30AM - 2:30PM Monday - Friday, 3:00PM - 5:00PM Gym, Monday - Friday, 7:30-Midnight, working from home. NO time for anything. But just as proof that I am still alive, I am just checking in.

I did a Entero Lavage Course (4days) over the weekend....
