Last night I was getting worried because I had not had a ....well, you know...BM in a few days so I took some senna laxative, which I had done before being banded with no problem. I wake up at 5am with things ready to move NOW! Ok, this is good. This is how things usually work when I take this stuff. About an hour later I start getting really really bad cramping pains and have to go more. The pain finally got so bad that I started dry heaving. :puke: I mean I could feel my stomach muscles clench really hard. I did this about 5 times and finally got up about 2 tbs of liquid. I know this is gross, sorry. I finally settled down and went back to bed still worried that maybe I damaged something with the band. I woke up two hours later feeling a little better but still having the effects of the laxative. I am worried about 2 things here. Why is the laxative working so violently since my banding and could I have damaged anything? I dont feel any different. Would I know if things were not "right"?

I can't answer why the violence unless you took more that you really need. Real laxatives are pretty harsh.

I was having constipation, too, but started taking two chewable Benefibres every night before bed. One of the band sisters recommended them. I'm still taking them. For a couple of days, I decide I didn't need to. WRONG!! Seems to keep things moving - but gently. You might want to give them a try.

Stitchy, thanks I am going to the store now so maybe I will pick some up. I am just so worried that my band may have slipped. I cant get my first fill until Jan 3rd so between the combination of that and possible slippage I am all freaked out.

Hey Idahobeauty, sorry to hear of your situation. I told my nutritionist at my pre-op consult that I was a very "regular" person and she told me that most ppl go only every three days, and she told me that I may become the norm (every 3 days) after the band because I would be eating less food. Perhaps the laxative was doing it's thing, but there was not much for it to work with if you know what I mean? Let us know how you are doing? I drink TOTAL TEA when things aren't working as they should. It's wonderful and you can brew it according to your needs, strong or weak.

Can you still drink things ok? If things are going down fine then I wouldn't worry about slippage. Usually if you have a slipped band you won't be able to even swallow your own spit. Or at least that's what my surgeon told me.

I can confirm that I used to be very regular too - not so much now.

Also, one episode of throwing up probably isn't going to slip your band. I went through a period of 2 days where I had the flu and threw up several times, and my band is just fine.

Thanks everyone this makes me feel much better. Yes, I can swallow just fine. No residual problems at all. I really appreciate all of your help.

I had several episodes like the one you described after my surgery. I finally had to resort to an enema to get out of pain. I had violent spasms and no action. I now eat an Acitiva a day and haven't had anymore problems. I eat it for breakfast and everything seems fine now.
