Good Morning All,

I have my surgical consult on 6/29/10. I have been waiting 3 weeks, which seems like a life time. My BMI is 43 and I have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high triglycerides, and arthritis. I have referrals from a few doctors, cardiologist and PCP included.

Does anyone have experience with BCBS of AR and what they require for surgery? All I got from the agent I spoke to was that you had to have a BMI of at least 40, and a letter of medical necessity and that approval took about 2 weeks. Seems too easy, but I am hopeful.

My ark bcbs doesn't cover it at all. Different companies have different coverage. I'll be going to Mexico. Best wishes.

I HAVE BCBS OF ALABMA.. THEY COVER IT BUT I HAD TO DO THE 6 MONTH DOCTOR DIET ( which is actually 7 months with the way they figure it) i had to see a shrink, had to do a letter explaining why i wanted it, i had to proved 5 years of being fat medical history. also when if they make you do the 6 month doctor diet, make sure he is doing the notes right, mine was NOT and I have had to do redo them. and I am no on 3 weeks of waiting for them to approve it. GOOD LUCK BUT EVERYTHING WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH IS WORTH IT
