Saline evaporated

I went to get a fill because I felt like I was starving. I ate 2 slices of pizza, was still hungry then woke up the next day still hungry! The doc gave the ok for an add of 1.5 but warned if too tight to come back asap. Well when the nurse checked 1.5 cc were gone from my band. I was supposed to at 8 but was only 6.5. When I asked where it went she explained that the body absorbs it in some people. She put me back at 8 and I was great for all of one day. Today I am starved again.

I called the doc and they told me to give it a couple of days to work. Is it possible that my band is leaking? If my body is absorbing the fluid as the nurse told me then what is going to happen and should I even continue with the band. I mean what is the sense in going through this he'll every other day if my body absorbs that much of the saline so quickly?

Dear God that scares me. When you find out whats happening please post your findings. Hope you dont have a leak----Man thats the first thing I would think though. This is horrible news. Sorry this is going on.

if there is a leak at the port area - right between the port and the tubing - that would be one thing. But saline as far as I know, does NOT just come out of the tubing by itself and get absorbed into the body...I would definitely insist on a fluro to find out what is going on with our port/tubing....a 'tiny' bit might be stuck in the tubing due to normal air bubbles but that's a lot not accounted for...keep us updated and let us know how things progress...

Well yesterday and this morning have brought no changes. They told me to wait a couple of days so I will. If today is the same as yesterday I am calling the doc. If more fluid has vanished I am definately going to ask for fluro, if for nothing but my own piece of mind. I will keep you posted.

I have an appointment for the doctor on Thursday. I really hope the fill is still there. I just have to be pessimistic because I am hungry! Hungry! Hungry! Within an hour after I eat.

So here is an update. I am relieved to say that I am not leaking. My band still had 8cc in it. I was told that if there was a leak then most if not all of the saline would have been gone. Whew!

They did put another 2ccs (10ccs total) in my band but when I sat up to drink water it just hung out in my throat. She took out .5 and I felt the water go down. Boy did that ever feel strange.

Tina, I'm so glad you didn't have a leak...and that your doctor was careful to not over-fill you, causing a whole gamut of other problems....sounds like things are in a good place for you now. :)
