a couple questions

how common is band slipping?

my surgeon said the band is stitched in place so how can the band slip if it is sewed in place?

it can slip...but not like ur thinking. the stomach will actually come up into and out of the band. the band itself isnt moving. its called a prolapse. a prolapse can be bad, where the entire stomach comes up and out through the top of the band, or only a small amount. if its bad, u may require surgery. if its not bad an unfill will usually correct it. i have had this happen twice. both times the unfill corrected the problem. however if it happens once-- chances are-- it will keep happening. it happens easily after the first time.

i never threw up. i was too tight and then i moved out of state. i couldnt get in to see a doc for over a week..and i could barely drink anything. thats what caused it. being too tight. i did not throw up. i did not pb. i did not have the typical heart burn pain symptoms. but i only had a small prolapse/slip. if i didnt get in sooner, my whole stomach could have come up and out of the band and caused me too have the band removed or repaired.

to prevent this from happening....i recommend not ever being too tight. if u think u are--- u are. get some out. right away. go easy on fills. make them tiny. tiny is better than giant fills all at once. see your doctor regularly. i didnt, but if ur vomiting, or pbing often, ur too tight. baby ur band. u cannot eat the way u did before. dont even try too.

Here is a little info from a nurse at my weight loss center.

//how does a slippage occur exactly?// Nobody really knows
for sure. Generally it is associated with keeping the band too tight,
eating large volumes of food leading to stretching of the pouch, and
frequent vomiting. The band doesn't slip. The stomach slips up through
the band. Sometimes it happens when none of these things are present.

In general, if you have slippage you will have symptoms: intolerance to
food and fluid, heartburn, reflux, pain, etc. If you have no symptoms
then it's unlikely you have a slip. It is rare for a slip to occur with
a single day of vomiting.

Sometimes we do need to empty or open the band for the flu or morning
sickness but in general your band should be open enough for things to go
both up and down.
