I am just wondering if this is a normal healing process or if I should be concerned. I was banded a week ago tomorrow and I can fall asleep on my stomach with no problem. I don't stay on my stomach I just fall asleep that way. About 2:30 am - 4:30 am I wake up feeling almost nauseas with a pain in my shoulders. I am not sure if the nausea is there from the pain in my shoulders or if the pain in my shoulders is from the nausea. I know I do get pain in my shoulders if I get too full during the day. I am still trying to recognize my body's signs of fullness, needing to burp, etc. Does anyone know what this is?

Can't believe you can sleep on your stomach 1 week out...

It's probably gas around your diaphragm or it getting irritated my the pressure of you lying on your stomach plus swelling and/or gas. I didn't have any gas pain post surgery, but I do sometimes get a crampy feeling in my right shoulder when I have gas bubbles that would have come out as a burp pre-band (gas is usually left shoulder - weird). The nausea is probably pressure related due to swelling.

I would try lying on your back or side until all the swelling is gone - another week at least. Why risk hurting anything or having pain and nausea. Let yourself heal. You have a lifetime to sleep in your favorite position.

Melissa, Thanks for replying. I guess I will have to give up the stomach sleeping for a while and hope that feeling goes away. Thanks again.

I agree with Melissa - I felt similarly nauseous / pain around stomach & shoulders if I slept on my side for about 10 days, and my stomach for at least a couple of weeks.

Try sleeping on your back / side or inclined a little longer.

Yup, try to avoid the stomach sleeping, I agree! I was fine on my side (right side...port is on the left) if I put a pillow between my legs and another in front of my stomach. Extra pillows really help. If you can't fall asleep this way, perhaps the reliner is a good option? You'll be stomach sleeping before you know it. Whatever these signals are, sleeping on your stomach seems to be the thing causing it. :(

How's it going for you now, Susan? Any better? Sleeping all night yet?

Thanks you guys. It was certainly the fact that I was trying to sleep on my stomach.

P'Nut....NO! I am still not able to sleep through the night! What the heck? I even called my friend the nurse and asked her about dehydration. I WANNA SLEEP! LOL
