No shooting pains---but remember the port is stitched into muscle, so maybe it is the problem. If your pain meds do not give you some ease, I would place a quick call to the Dr. to see if he considers that to be normal. You (or the insurance as the case may be) paid good money for this surgery, and if you have a question don't hesitate to call and ask them!!!
Welcome to bandland---I hope the journey continues more comfortably!!!

I did have sharp shooting pains, and then it gradually faded to regular pains in my port area for quite some time.
I agree with Kat though, that if you feel you need to call your doctor, please do so. Sometimes just to hear from them is enough to set our minds at ease.
Have you tried putting a nice heated herbal pillow on the area? That really helped me tremendously for that first week or so.
Best wishes to you!

I didn't have sharp pains but know of others who did. Take those pain meds and rest. Also, it might help to put a heating pad on the area. Other people have said that it relieves the pain.
 I hope to see you tomorrow.

I am 3 days out and feeling good. I have still not eaten anything...no desire. I actually went to walmart today. Coughing is killing me, but other than that I feel great.

Reblynd, I had coughing too. I just got over it. It felt like it was going to make my port rip right out of the incision site. I thought I would never stop. I think it may be something to do with the tube they put in your throat while they do the anesthesia.
