I had my surgery on 2/17/10 by Dr. J. Taylor in Ypsilanti Michigan at the Barix Clinic. I am very very happy with my experience. I started the process last April and due to several personal roadblocks, finally had it done 2/17/10. I had changed insurance in January of 2010 and with BCBS I could have gone to any of the big MIchigan hospitals, like Henry Ford or Beaumont. I chose to stay with Dr. Taylor and I'm very glad I did. Barix is a specialty hospital and smaller than the named hospitals, but the care was excellent. They are even somehow associated with U of M Teaching Hospital, which is about 15 minutes away.

I ran low on my meds today and called his office. The nurse found it odd that I was running low so fast but that was a pharmacy mistake. They called the script in immediately and I picked up up an hour later. Very cool.

They even have a "store" to buy products and it's true that their prices are lower than anywhere else, including GNC.

Sometimes smaller is better.

Sounds good Ann Marie. I started going through them years ago for the gastric bypass, but lost my job and insurance so was unable to get it. I forgot about them! Do they have support groups for bandsters who did not have the surgery there? I live in Gregory and had my surgery in Detroit at Harper Hospital with Dr. Laker. I am very happy with my surgery too, just too far to drive for a support group, and Lansing is about the same.

I am curious (for my MIL) about BCBS MI/Blue Care Network's coverage. how long (ballpark) is the process?

I changed insurance as of 1/1/2010. I told Barix on 1/5/10. The insurance department called BCBS with my info. I had already completed the psych eval and it was in my file. The "ok" took about one day. All they did was check my benefits. The only issue may be the amount that your insurance has for the co-pay. The docx likes the co-pay paid to him or have some sort of arrangement worked out. I had my pre-op on 2/10/10 and my surgery on 2/17/10.
