Hello all,
Well, I've been lurking around the website for a while now, so I suppose it's time to step outside of my comfort zone of stealth mode and introduce myself. :spy:My name is Shelley and I'm from right outside the Charlotte area. I am not banded - yet, but hopefully will be in the near future. I have my seminar the Monday after Thanksgiving with Dr. Voellinger's office in Charlotte. (I can't wait...I'm counting down the days!)
I have a similar story as many others with weight issues. I've been heavy all my life and struggled with dieting and exercise just to lose and gain back. I've tried them all...just ask and I can give you the run down on WW, Atkins, Calorie counting...the list goes on. I have actually been somewhat successful in the past with Weight Watchers, but I still have issues with portions - even when I'm eating the right kinds of foods. I always gain back when I stop following the program like a diet nazi. After all of my research, I really think that the band will help me with those portion issues and I can't wait to get to it! In the meantime, I'm still abiding by the WW mentality and exercising. I know that it is a life long change and old habits die hard.
I'm sure I have my formative fat memories that I won't bore you all with - even though some are pretty hilarious when I think back. If you ever want a good laugh, ask me about the rants of my grandmother in an upscale department store while clothes shopping for Christmas. I never knew the word "Husky" could echo like that....anyways. The term Butterball has a whole new meaning to a little fat kid at Thanksgiving. Nothing a few years with Dr. Phil won't fix, right? (I'm trying to find humor folks...bear with me. I'll explain further below.)
On another note...I have a 4 year old son who loves to quote Disney and Pixar movies (current favorite is "dad gum!" and "he did what in his cup" - CARS). I also have a very supportive husband - that while he drives me nuts sometimes, I would never trade for anything. I work in banking downtown Charlotte. I am friends with Karen (Mrs. Sabre)....and we used to work together. We hadn't seen each other in a while, but I stumbled onto her on this site. (Small world, huh?) She has been kind enough to give me a ton of useful info on life with the band. I am very excited about meeting everyone and I'm going to try my best to get to the Saturday meeting this weekend.
I've tried to master the art of seeing the humor in most situations and I try not to take myself too seriously. :biggrin1:I'm hoping to build some lasting friendships here and hopefully be able to offer support where I can to others and when I need it...draw from you guys. From what I've read - this site has some incredibly insightful and supportive folks.
Whew.....that wasn't so hard.:Dancing_laugh:
