I know I promised these awhile ago but better late than never, right? My hubby had the awesome idea of injecting the port with red food coloring so you could see where the leak is. In the pics you will see the port and the tubing that were removed from me as well as the fill needle inserted into the port. Everything that is red is food coloring NOT BLOOD or marks on the port or tubing (we only had red). As the dye was injected into the port it leaked from both the front and the back of the tubing, as if it had a hole poked straight through it.

Let me know if you have any questions!

How cool to see this. (not cool that it happened to you!)

Why cant they do this kind of dye test inside of us so we can know for sure that we are doing ok with each fill? Hmm...

Very cool pics. I guess your port got punctured during a fill? Doc musta been pressing awful hard to go through THAT area of the port. Ouch! How are you feeling? Thanks for the pics, so cool!

Drewslou, thanks for sharing. I am going in tomorrow morning for a fluoroscope with dye to see where I'm leaking. It is interesting to see. If you don't mind could you PM me the cost of your port replacement. I know you said it was covered by your Dr. but did you have a $$ amount before he said he would pay. My Dr. said $ 4500.00 I sure hope that if is something he did with a fill he covers it like yours did. Thanks for sharing and congrats on losing.....

Should/does this raise any cause for concern about fills not done under fluoro? My first 3 fills were quick & easy. My last fill took something like 12 or 14 tries before my port was hit. What's to say they didn't poke a hole through mine too? I still have a bruise the size of a silver dollar, even though scabs from the attempts are limited to a very small area.

Drew, this is about the most awesome thing Ive seen in a long time! You get a BIG high-five for giving us the Inside Edition at port leaks.

:high5:

btw: I cant believe they gave you the port to keep! I thought they needed to submit it to Inamed for "reasearch".

Wow. Thanks for posting your pics, and sorry you had to go through the hassle of a leaky port and revision surgery.

The port my doc used has a metal sheath inside that part of the tubing so that it can't be punctured by a needle. I tried really hard to stick the needle into that part of the doc's demonstration port with no damage whatsoever. I think this may be a relatively recent redesign of the port & tubing system. Hope you now have a reinforced port!
