I have been thinking alot about getting a Wii. But I know nothing about it. Is it possible to get a good cardio work out with one? How about toning like with weights? What games would you recommend? Any information would be very helpful as I am totaly clueless!

Hey girlfriend - I am glad you asked this. I have balance issues because of lack of B12 and someone told me that there is even something that would help that but not sure what to buy. How is the pre-issurance stuff going. I am on the liquid diet with surgery next Tuesday. Be anxious to find out what you find out here.:wink2:

I have the Wii Fit game with balance board. Depending on where you are at fitness wise, yes, you can get a decent workout... I'd say it's best for beginners, but there are some newer games that are higher intensity. I got mine last year for xmas and love it when I make time for it.

You can get the Wii Fit & balance board in a bundle or buy them separately. I also have Animal Crossings, good for a brainless escape periodically. LOL

I too have the wii and fit plus and a lot of other games.... I use it everyday and love it and but I wouldn't get the Julian 2010 game ( from biggest losers) it was a waste of money for me as it mainly just using your arms and running in place....... I gave my copy to one of the girls at the WLSC office. JMO

I want to get one also. The trainer I work with at the hosp said that Wii Fit would be good for me and help with my balance issues as well. He said it would really help with Core strength. He told me we fit plus is pretty harsh for me to start with but you would probaby be able to handle it. We'll have to share stories/

We've had the Wii for quite a while and I do have the Wii Fit and balance board, which is fantastic for sure. Also, EA Sports Active is AMAZING. You may need another band for the thigh (there's is sort of flimsy) but this 'game' kicks butt!! It's a best seller for a reason and they have a web site so you can check it out.

Good luck!

I got the Wii fit plus and the biggest loser for xmas and I love them both. I find that the biggest loser is more of a work out but I'm addicted to the step aerobics on the wii fit plus. I would recommend getting either one if you are looking for somewhere to start.

Ill second that! I have the Fit w/ Balance Board & got EA Sports Active for Christmas. WOW, it kicks my butt! You dont need the board to workout with this game though.

I have had a Wii for a while -- and loved it but became bored. I "just" last week bought Wii Fit Plus (much better and MORE offered than the regular Wii Fit game) - it too tracks your calories and time working out.

and I also bought the EA Sports ACTIVE Personal Trainer -- it really gives me a GOOD workout - tracks calories - time exercising - comes with bands that give you resistance for arm work and combines cardio with it too...

You can set up your own workout but I recommend doing the 30 day workout plan - it changes up the exercises - you can rest in between - and it just picks up the next time you work out and lets you really see how many calories you are burning. I chose "medium" intensity but I've also been working out a while. You can also "un-check" activities that you find too difficult or know will possibly hurt - I skip the running sometimes because I know it's too hard on my knees some days.

You can always start with "easy" and move up. The ACTIVE can be bought with a single leg strap and band or a "partner" set so two people can work out together.

I do both of these games now for a good over-all workout - exactly what I was looking for. And you WILL sweat by the time you've finished lol

I like the Wii Fit Balance Board and the Wii Fit game. I also like Sports (that comes with the Wii) and Sports Resort. Love bowling and tennis!

A new game that gives you a really good workout is Just Dance. You only use the controller, no board. There is a dancer on the TV and you have to mimic the moves they are doing. Lots of sweat build up on that one! Plus you can do part of a song or an entire song. Half an hour of that game and you'll have done a pretty decent workout.

thanks for the Just Dance recommendation...I might check it out -- it's always good to have a variety of options for working out :)

I've mentioned the Just Dance thing before. I love love love it. I do that when I need a change from the gym. I can't use my legs well because of my handicap, but I do try, but just using the arms. Wow. I love it. I am hoping they come out with a second one or updated songs. They have a variety, but only about 30 or so. As long as I remind myself it is to help me stay healthy, I can overlook that.

It is also a GREAT party game. If any of you are on my facebook, look at Rob's Party from February. The first few pictures are of members of my family dancing and playing it. They were in here for hours. And we also had a DJ in the garage. We also gave my 2 y/o nephew the remote and he kicked some butt. Granted, he didn't do the exact moves, but he was having a blast. I have to add that video too.

In fact, I'm adding a video of the dancing with Just Dance in a second! LOL My cousin's are going to kill me :-)

I use the wii active. You use a resisance band. You run, work you arms with band, lots of cardio, boxing, lunges, squats. you can use balance board with it to do different exercises. good luck!

We got the Wii Fit Plus when we got our Wii about 6 months ago. We just opened and started using the Fit Plus and I am surprised at how good of a workout I can get. I want to try out the NFL traning camp game. It's supposed to simulated being at an NFL trainig camp and all the excercises the football players do. Anyone tried that one yet?

hey Neal...I tried to post yesterday but got booted lol...anyhow, nope haven't tried "football" but it sounds like fun!

I, too, get an amazing workout from the Wii Fit Plus - the Wii ACTIVE will "really" kick butt - you might want to try that one out too. ACTIVE can be bought with 2 of everything so you can exercise with a partner. I saw the 'newest' version out now that works more like X-Box Connect - nothing to wear - it recognizes you. I'd like to get that one day, it would be much easier to work out without bands, etc. on you.

I do the Biggest Loser with Wii all the time. It is a really great workout. You can even program it for routine exercise and it can track your weight, either manually without the balance board or automatically with the balance board.

The Wii has been a life saver for me. I have a really bad back and other health issues and the Wii has always worked the best.

Wii Fit is great for beginners. I love using it to keep in shape. I'm one of those lazy types, so having it be an interactive game play helps me keep motivated.
