After your surgery? I'm thinking about starting up walking 2 miles but I'm not sure how long to wait. I got banded on 11/5/09

I was given clearance to exercise right away as long as it wasn't strenous and didn't involve over-working the abdominal muscles. I think a walk would be fine, just don't strand yourself out somewhere. My guess is you'll get tired more quickly than before due to your body healing from surgery and not taking in as many calories as its normally used to.

Your best bet is to ask your doctor what they prefer you do. Mine wanted me walking 30 minutes/day as soon as I could tolerate it. If you can walk 2 mile this soon after surgery my hat is off to you. Shoot I had a hard time walking 2 miles before surgery, who am I trying to kid. lol Good luck with your walking. I think the great thing is that you are wanting to get up and exercise. You should do really well if this attitude keeps up.

Ask your Dr, but most are released to do non strenuous activity, like walking as soon as they feel up to it.

I asked this same question after I was banded. Called my doctor and he told me that after a week your body should be healed enough to exercise but to wait until you felt comfortable and could exercise pain free. I told him that could be years! ha ha He said pain free from the surgery! ha ha

My doctor gave me clearance to exercise as tolreated right from the beginning. the only restraint that I had was that I was limited to lifting no more than 10lbs for the first month. But to be on the safe side I would ask your doctor. Good Luck.

I was told I needed to walk 30 minutes a day. He said I could do a tread mill. (thought this was funny since I couldn't do a treadmill before) Stationary bike was okay. He just didn't want me swimming for two weeks.

I am walking 3 or 4 times a day in the circle out front of my home plus shopping with a basket for about 30 minutes.

I am puttering around the home doing chores that I have put off for years...Organizing pictures and turning cushions. Not sure what I will do tomorrow. I don't do convelescent well.

Lol, I was made to walk and do step ups in the hospital and I went for a walk about ten minutes after we put my bags inside after coming home.

So I walked, probably about 2 miles, from the day after surgery.
